Meet the Designers

The masterminds behind the patterns and designs of the Wiener Sehnsucht Collection, are acclaimed Austrian artists, designers and architects of the Wiener Werkstätte. Their original designs, from the Backhausen archive, and the expertise of the Backhausen atelier, were the perfect combination to embed craftsmanship, heritage, individuality and sustainability into the Wiener Sehnsucht Collection.

Josef Hoffmann (1870 - 1956) The architect and designer co-founded the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903. His work and designs have left a long-lasting influence around the world of art and design, making a significant contribution as one of the leading figures of the Viennese Modernism movement.

Ernst Lichtblau (1883 - 1963) Lichtblau was a valued student of Otto Wagner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, who later worked for the Wiener Werkstätte creating designs for arts and crafts. His passion for interior design is portrayed throughout his life’s work.
