The spirit of the Fin de Siècle endures one hundred years after the era of Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser. And what about the fashion from this past age? It is as modern as ever. This is something Arthur Arbesser proves beyond doubt with his collection “Arthur Arbesser X Vienna”, made using Backhausen textiles finished with original designs by Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann. The Arthur Arbesser Collection and its depiction through the lens of top photographer Elfie Semotan can be visited at the Leopold Museum until 4th March, 2019.
The year 2018 was all about the Vienna Modern. Austrian designer Arthur Arbesser was commissioned by Vienna tourism agency WienTourismus to create a fashion collection to celebrate the achievements of this amazing era. He created a capsule collection called “Arthur Arbesser X Vienna“, inspired by his home town and the unforgettable works of the great artists of the Vienna Modern. The textile manufacturer Backhausen, which worked closely with the greats of the Wiener Werkstätte during this impressive period, delved deep into its design archive to bring the collection to life. The company produced exclusive silk-wool jacquard weaves with original designs by Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann to capture the unique spirit of the Vienna Modern in the finest of fabrics.

The fashion collection, materials from the staging of the photo shoot and the impressive, original fashion photography of the Wiener Werkstätte taken from the archive of the Vienna MAK are currently on display at the exhibition “Eine Wiener Garderobe” (A Viennese Wardrobe). A fashion trip through time from the past to the present that inspires and enchants: visitors are welcome at the Leopold Museum until 4th March, 2019!
